Dennis McCann received the 2024 PHSA+ Patient Partner Award for his vital role in actively shaping and improving PHSA. This award recognizes how those with lived experiences are invaluable partners in pursuing healthcare excellence.
While at BC Renal (and other kidney care organizations), Dennis McCann joined eight different committees and working groups, participated in numerous research projects, interviewed new patient partners, and even assisted in the inception of the
Post-COVID Interdisciplinary Clinical Care Network (PC-ICCN), among other invaluable contributions.
"As a patient partner with PHSA, the depth and breadth of Dennis' involvement and influence cannot be overstated. Ultimately, his greatest and most enduring legacy is not any one particular role or project he supported; rather, it is his status as a trailblazer, paving the way for the standardized inclusion of patient partners across all BC Renal committees and working groups."
"I'm not here for myself," Dennis once said of his work as a patient partner. "I'm here for patients who don't have my advantages. Without patients standing up for themselves and other patients, things won't change."
The PHSA+ Awards are part of an internal recognition program that celebrates teams and individuals who bring our purpose, vision, values and Coast Salish teachings to life in the workplace. They go above and beyond to serve patients and families across B.C.
