The Outstanding Medical Staff PHSA+ Award celebrates those who serve as an inspiration to others and are a pillar of excellence in the medical community and the medical profession. This year, Dr. Paris-Ann Ingledew, head of radiation oncology at BC Cancer - Vancouver, has received this award for her commitment to supporting radiation oncology staff and patients.
Throughout her career, Dr. Ingledew has taken leadership roles in various programs, committees, departments and boards related to the field of oncology at BC Cancer and UBC, where she helps ensure the best experience for healthcare staff and patients.
As president of the Medical Staff Engagement Society and Medical Dental Staff Association at BC Cancer, she works to improve communications between medical staff and the leadership of BC Cancer and PHSA so that the voices of medical staff are heard and that their wellness is prioritized. In this role, she works to allocate funding towards engagement projects, ensuring the best experience for BC Cancer staff and their patients.
Dr. Ingledew's colleague shares, "She has had great success in retaining and recruiting radiation oncologists at a time when this is difficult. This has been essential in keeping waiting lists down and maintaining team functioning."
She supports her team members by uplifting them during challenging times, fostering a positive work environment and ensuring that staff have the resources that they need in order to provide quality care to patients and their families.
Dr. Ingledew shares her appreciation for the culture of recognition that the PHSA+ Awards brings.
"I am incredibly grateful and humbled that my colleagues took the time to nominate me. That in of itself meant the world to me. In fact, in this first year of this award, I was amazed to see all of the medical staff nominated. To me this symbolizes a culture of gratitude and appreciation at PHSA. This culture is growing everyday and really is helping to connect us all. I feel fortunate to work at an organization with so many incredible colleagues and to be able to do the work I do everyday!"
