"Even though this is my third career and I have previous work experiences; I felt the last few months have been a huge growth as a brand-new nurse. Oncology is different in so many ways, we don't learn as much about oncology nursing in school and the role requires the personal growth to be able to handle the compassionate care. I have enjoyed the workshops because it provided me validation on some of my experiences as a new grad."
– Julie Fraser, RN, BC Cancer – Prince George
"Transitioning out of being a student has been anxiety-inducing and stressful these first few months, or as my facilitators put it, like 'dating someone for the first time.’ During one of the workshops, I was reminded that feeling anxious and a little spooked is typical for new graduates, but also, that I should continue to look into healthy ways to burn off that stress like going out for a run or reading a book."
- RJ Ramos, RN, BC Children’s Hospital
"The new graduate transition workshops have given me insight on the trajectory of what it feels like as a new graduate. Learning about confidence levels during certain transitions allowed me to understand what was happening during this big change. I also learned about the resources available for new graduates, providing some peace with the feeling of being overwhelmed."
- Edwin Muljandinata, RN, BC Children’s Hospital
“The New Grad Mentors’ unwavering support and approachability has been a constant source of reassurance. They've not only provided guidance but also a sense of security during this significant phase of my career. Knowing that there's a dedicated team invested in my growth and well-being has truly made a difference."
– Winnie Kan, RN, BC Children’s Hospital
"Through the new grad program, I've been able to meet others who have also just begun their nursing career. Everyone I've encountered has been so friendly and open to meeting new people, embodying the characteristics of an inclusive community."
– Ruby Kong, RN, BC Children's Hospital
