British Columbia (B.C.) is on Canada's west coast, and is one of Canada's 10 provinces and three territories. British Columbia has a population of around 4 million people; Victoria is the capital city, and Vancouver is the largest (and the third-largest metropolitan area in Canada). B.C. borders the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Rocky Mountains to the east, and the United States (Washington and Oregon) to the south. Ocean, mountains, city, small towns, and remote wilderness – there is a lifestyle and geographic environment to suit all tastes.
B.C. is an outstanding place to live, work, study, and play for individuals, couples and families of all sizes. Leisure and recreation lifestyle vary as broadly as the landscape, and include outdoor sports like skiing, fishing, boating, mountain biking, and climbing, to urban fun such as theatre, fine dining, professional sports venues, and shopping, and for the families, all sorts of children's sports, arts, festivals, special events, and more.
To determine registration eligibility, first register for an account with Health Match BC. Health Match BC is a complementary health professional recruitment service funded by the Government of B.C. Health Match BC's physician services team assesses individuals' training and experience to determine qualification to work as a physician within B.C. Qualified physicians will then be referred to PHSA's Physician Recruitment Team, who will share available positions and answer questions about the hiring process.
Physicians who meet the registration eligibility requirements, and are offered a position with PHSA, will need to obtain authorization to work in Canada. PHSA has an in-house immigration specialist who will guide the process of obtaining authorization to work in Canada and assist you and your family with relocating to B.C.
To obtain authorization to work in Canada, PHSA partners with the BC Provincial Nominee Program, which will "nominate" international physicians who have received a valid job offer. Once nominated, the BC Provincial Nominee Program will issue a work permit support letter. This letter enable application for the initial work permit, and the nomination allows for application for permanent residency.
