Zoom Resources for Patients

Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service you can use to virtually meet with others. With Zoom, you can see, hear and speak with your health care team from the comfort of your home. We call this a Zoom virtual health visit.

Your virtual health visit with Zoom

Everyone's journey using Zoom is different. This infographic (PDF) outlines the general steps of your virtual health visit with Zoom, from receiving your invitation by email to joining your Zoom appointment.

This toolkit from Accreditation Canada and Health Standards Organization has checklists to help patients, health professionals, and digital teams prepare for virtual health visits.

Using Zoom

How do I get invited to a Zoom virtual health visit?

Before you can be invited to a virtual health visit, your healthcare team will ask you some questions to see if this option is right for you. They will consider the following:

  • Do you have a reliable internet connection and a smartphone, tablet, or computer?
  • Are you comfortable with technology in general? (i.e. using email, or video conferencing)
  • Do you understand the possible risks of using digital communications?

After you let us know that you will be using Zoom, the healthcare team will email you an invitation to the appointment.

How to prepare for a good virtual health visit

Like an in-person visit, there are some things you can do before the virtual visit to make sure that your Zoom appointment runs smoothly. Please take a look at this checklist (PDF) for more information.

You can also invite a family member or friend to join you when appropriate.
