PHSA is dedicated to improving cultural safety, taking action to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism across all of its programs and services, creating the conditions that allow greater equity for all.
Eradicating racism and discrimination against First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples at PHSA will support the organization to implement daily practices that support the provision of culturally safe and anti-racist care.
Completion of San’yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training and Anti-Indigenous Racism Response Training (ARRT) will equip medical staff with the framework to create an equitable, anti-racist and culturally safe health system where everyone thrives.
Before March 31, 2025, all medical staff are required to complete San’yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, either
Core ICS Health or
Core ICS Mental Health, and Anti-Indigenous Racism Response Training (ARRT) via
LearningHub*
New medical staff are expected to complete the training within six months of their start date.
Medical staff who are employed (salaried), or service contract remunerated, or in a formal medical leadership role are asked to complete this training during their working hours if feasible within their department or division – to be reviewed with their leaders. Medical staff who are remunerated by fee-for-service, fee-based-service or sessional payments will be compensated for their time as per the following guidelines:
- Medical staff must not already be compensated for their time through an employment/salary, service contract or medical leadership arrangement with a program.
- Training must be completed between September 1, 2023 and March 31, 2025.
- Compensation will be for up to ten (10) hours for San’yas and up to four (4) hours for ARRT at the hourly sessional rate in effect at the date of service.
Medical staff are also permitted to submit their San’yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training hours for CPD credits, even if they are eligible for compensation.
