Cerner PowerChart

Cerner PowerChart is a clinical health information system used at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre (C&W).

Cerner PowerChart is the primary place to view patient lab results, radiology results and reports, and to edit and sign transcribed documents. At this time, Powerchart is only available at C&W.

The best way to understand PowerChart, and what it can do for your research, is to take the LearningHub courses.

If you work at C&W, but are not a researcher or research staff member, please see the C&W Cerner Course Requirements for Access* page.

*Available only to staff and affiliates with access to PHSA POD (password protected).

Do you need access to PowerChart?

Studies that have been reviewed and approved by the C&W Research Ethics Board (REB) may require access to information held in Powerchart.

You may need access to Powerchart if you are:

  • part of a clinical trial team;
  • conducting observational real-time clinical research; or
  • needing retrospective data from labs or transcriptions from July 1, 2014 onwards

You will not need access to Powerchart if you are:

  • conducting retrospective research; and
  • do not need labs or transcriptions data dated after July 1, 2014

Instead, apply for access to EVE*. EVE (Electronic Viewer for Everyone) is the 'view only' legacy system for historical lab results and transcribed reports before June 24, 2014.
